Books

Introducting Your Kids to the Outdoors, teaches parents the key ingredients for family adventure travel, outdoor sports and fun. It includes sections on snow skiing and snowboarding, climbing, water sports, biking, and international travel. As an added bonus, I have listed 50 excellent family trips for all ages and budgets inlcuding the 10 best national parks for families and 10 family-friendly ski resorts.

My first book, Backcountry Snowboarding, is an excellent overview. It will get you stoked to search for powder (Mountaineers Books, 1998).

Canyoneering: Beginning to Advanced Techniques grew out of my Utah days of rappling into deep slot canyons, squeezing through narrows, and swimming into plunge pools. Akin to mountaineering, it's one of the hottest adventure sports (Mountaineers Books, 2000).

Watersports Safety and Emergency First Aid came from my love of windsurfing, surfing, and other watersports. A compact handbook, it lists the bare essentials for water enthusiasts (Falcon Press, 2003).

First Aid: A Pocket Guide is a handy little book with lots of details. It's a must read for outdoor types. Keep one in your car and another in a first aid kit (Mountaineers Books, 2002).

Emergency Survival: A Pocket Guide is another handy little book with all the bare essentials for emergencies (Mountaineers Books, 2002).

We have something in the Pacific Northwest many places don't: we can ski and snowboard the mountains year-round. After writing several how-to books, I tried my hand at a guide book to introduce people to my home mountains. Backcountry Ski Oregon: Classic Descents for Skiers and Snowboarders, Including Southwest Washington is a guide for beginners through experts (Sasquatch Books, 2003).
